On any short list of American architectural icons, Thomas Jefferson's Virginia home,
Monticello, would rank near the top. Now Houston has one too. That's the business lobby of
the Southern National Bank that you're looking at on the right. Is it real or is is
PhotoShop? It's real, with better grass and an adjacent parking garage.
Two Trivia Tips:
1. Behind the bank, is a reproduction of another of Jefferson's houses, this one built to
hold the bank's Museum of Southern History.
2. Adjacent to the bank property (to your right in the photo), the bank is constructing a
shopping center-reproduction of Jefferson's quadrangle at the University of Virginia.
