10. San Felipe

Westward where they walked
who would walk until
wanting to stop they said
here, here I want to stay.
From Sumer or somewhere
they walked, from, even, Bei
jing, I bet. Their paths
are everywhere, and this
arrow-straight street of walled-
in wealth, curved brick walls,
wax-shiny magnolias, crepe myr
tyles bigger than most trees,
azaleas high as houses, li
gustrums galore, this too was
a path of sorts, for the last
steps toward home on
the falsely empty arms
of God folded crooked o
ver a womb at Teotihuacan,
and breasts, ten thousand, rea
dy to sprout black thick milk
to a world that didn't e
ven know it was hungry. San
Felipe de Austin de
San Felipe home home home.
