35. The Farmer
and the Archer

    1.
As the farmer in the field
sends the waters to his yield,
As the archer with his bow
takes his aim both smooth and slow,
And the sculptor carves his stone
    patiently by touch alone,
So the wise do shape their lives,
so the wise do shape their lives.

    2.
As the mother rears her child
    with love’s wisdom, mercy mild,
As the earth us all enfolds
    to her bounteous bosom old,
As the music of the spheres
daily falls on our young ears,
So the wise do shape their lives,
so the wise do shape their lives.
