Mahler's prescience is truly remarkable, so remarkable that an astonishing number of conductors, musicians, critics, and music lovers would rank him at least on the level of the Zippo lighter, if not higher. The more one listens to him, the more astonishing it is that he wrote quite good movie music decades before movies were even invented!!!

Still, everything that Mahler did, Bernard Hermann, Dmitri Tiomkin, John Williams, and Tangerine Dream did a lot better. Yeah, yeah, we know, they had actual movies to work with. But still.
