Note In the early 1970s, I spent many hours in the Rothko Chapel, contemplating the paintings. Over a period of six months, I found myself quite unexpectedly writing a series of songs which on the surface seem to have little immediate connection with Rothko's dark, massive last works, but which clearly revolved planet-like around the paintings. A quarter of century later, I went through the songs again and prepared this Internet edition. The songs have
no official or legal connection with the Rothko Chapel, which served only as their
inspiration.
