Plant a Seed
in the Desert
by Doc
Cuddy, Editor
We're not really sure how to present this, but here goes:
Alarmed at the growing belligerence of the present American government,
we've tried to think about what to do, what to do, how to raise the level of sanity in the
world even just a smidgen.
We have, in this publication, tried, God knows, all kinds of approaches
from extreme satire to extreme (pardon the expression) metaphysics in dealing with the
outrageous behavior of some of the so-called leaders of American Triumphant. In our more
benign moments, we think of those efforts as (pardon the metaphor) seeds, ideas-as-seeds
planted here and there in what we hope is still-tillable and fertile American soil. We
proceed, in other words, on the assumption that lots of Americans are still thinking.
It occurred to us that, in spite of language problems, we should also
proceed on the assumption that lots of Arabic speakers are still thinking. If the CIA with
its billion-dollar budgets has trouble crossing the Arabic-English language barrier,
what's a broke dot.com like Magellan's Log to do?
Think-think-think. How to reach across the barrier with such limited
resources? There's no way to get to the children; they are completely unreachable. So who
does that leave? That leaves 1) men, and 2) women. Hmmm.
Hmmm.
A lot of hmmm-ing finally came up with what's on the next page. It's one
sentence from the early days of late 20th century feminism which we have had rendered into
Arabic.
If you know any Arabic speakers who might benefit from such a seed, or who
might know how to further spread such a seed, please send it on. Maybe somewhere, in some
mind or minds, it will offer hope, light, and energy to act.
See what you think. >>
