The Search for Words

The various sentences I’ve chosen and used come mostly from the oldest texts (for reasons which I stated above).

Mostly, but not entirely. Because I also used a highly subjective method in selecting them. And I urge you to do the same in finding your own lenses. I mentioned that I chose the first lens ("When you understand that the external world has nothing to do with your real self. . .") because I reacted very strongly and positively when I read it. That basically has been my criterion in choosing other statements.

So. The collection I offer here all spoke strongly to me. Some or even many may not speak as strongly to you, though I suspect many will, by their very nature. My point is, you can create your own collection.

Here is my collection, in several forms. First is a short list of 36 statements which I’ve memorized and which I use a lot.

Then there is a much longer and more varied list, in which you may find utterances more to your liking.

Then I’ve reformatted the short list in several ways, using the capabilities of hypertext: 1) a color saltlick, 2) a word saltlick, and 3) a blob saltlick.

Altogether then, five collections.

Plus (saving the best for last): two longer licks, one very old (the Hsin Hsin Ming) and one quite new ("Slip Inside This House").

Explore and use as you will.
