For your internal life, it’s an excellent method for breaking out of mental ruts. From simple ruts to old, deep ruts.

For example, you are involved in a work assignment that is making your crazy. Maybe it’s repetitive and boring, or maybe it’s extremely demanding, or baffling. Use three or five minutes of a saltlick to break out of the thinking rut. You’ll find you come back with a different perspective on things.

On a more intimate level, when you find yourself in a familiar personal rut, thinking negative thoughts about yourself or your life ("I’m not good enough to do this," "I’m weak," "I’m unloved," "I’m frightened," "Things look hopeless"), a few minutes of a salt lick several or many times a day can over a period of a few days lift you out of that rut and help you see and act on other possibilities.
