In the Gloaming
by Robert L. Tufford
Future missiles whistle
Through my dreams
launched by no friends
of mine. "Weve been
through this before."
But last time Neanderthal
ran and hid in caves. Now
Neo-neanderthal has his
clumsy thumb on nuclear
buttons while we fumble
with our new pacifiers and
stumble often when we
try to walk toward
light brighter than his
childish but oh so dangerous
great big firecrackers.
In the twilit bunkers where
antique cortexes strive again
for supremacy over us whom
they can not see,
stubby fingers spasm and
punch and punch and punch
red buttons. I sigh watching
my tiny spider and hopeful
mayhaw. Do you?
