Magellan's Log: Iris Murdoch: Lilliputtery

Tiny talents, fame-addled novelists, desiccate philosophers, lead-footed theologians, grapple with Murdoch’s work. Does the very famous New Jersey-based novelist get credit for trying to convey the essence of The Philosopher’s Pupil to us even though you can almost here the grinding of her photogenically capped teeth as she mainly and very publicly misses the point? What about the Massachusetts philosopher who can’t find enough of what he takes to be philosophy (dead leaves) in the forest of the novel’s living trees? Or the Illinois theologian, bless him, who can’t get past Murdoch’s playing fast and loose with the G-word?
