To the usual fictive scrims, in The Philosopher’s Pupil Murdoch adds two: a narrator, "N.", and a wholly imagined town, "Ennistone" ("N’s town," she coyly informs us). One awaits with some eagerness the map that can and will be drawn of Ennistone, not to mention the virtual reality version of same.
