SCOOP!
First Photos of New U.S. Ambassador's Residence,
N'Djamena, Republic of Chad
What do you get if you don't just deliver 25 electoral votes to a presidential
candidate but the 25 CRITICAL ELECTORAL VOTES?
Not only do you can an ambassadorship. If you play your cards-- and a few other
things-- right you also get a few extra perks.
That darling of the Revlon set (motto: It is impossible to have too much eyeliner on),
Ms. Katherine Harris, as we all know, did with exemplary Republican sangfroid
deliver Florida's 25 electoral votes to Dubya. And we have it on good inside-the-beltway
authority that Ms. Harris will shortly be appointed (by Dubya-- who else?) as the nation's
new ambassador to Chad (where else?-- just a little inside joke on the part of the
ever-witty G.O.P.).
Nfubi Kwaadutu, our man in Chad [Click
here to read his reports on the state of Chadian affairs], has in fact provided us
with hard evidence of this breaking story. According to Nfubi, the hot street talk in
N'Djamena, the capital of the Republic of Chad, is that somebody just paid top dollar for
the old Idi Amin mansion on the outskirts of town (Idi, it seems, used the place as a
get-away when Ugandan politics heated up), which had stood deserted for some years.
N'Djamenians could hardly fail to note the endless series of Home Depot 747's landing
at N'Djamena Airport, unloading tons of renovation materials for the neglected mansion. An
enterprising reporter for the N'Djamena Green Sheet tracked the bills of lading
backward and discovered that they were in fact all being paid from a P.O. box in Crawford,
Texas.
Nfubi rushed to the N'Djamena Wal-Mart, purchased a Fuji disposable camera, took a taxi
to the outskirts of the city and proceeded to photograph the structure for us. He even
managed to talk his way inside and take some interior shots. Who needs Architectural
Digest when you've got Magellan's Log on the scene of cutting-edge interior
design!!!
