Flibbertigibbet politicians and ideologies of expedience dominate the news, fill many
column inches daily, clog the electromagnetic spectrum, hog bandwidth.Message of the
day: PAY ATTENTION TO ME ME ME!!!
Politely put, Magellan's Log here offers you a mental diuretic. Less politely,
a hit of psychic Ex-Lax. Less politely still, a high-colonic to flush the bad stuff out of
your mind and heart.
The bad stuff is all so repetitive. As Stephen Gaskin pointed out long ago, the daily
publications should be called OLDSpapers.
We thought maybe repetition of a different kind might be helpful. We collected a bunch
of rounds and canons, pieces of music (mostly short) which are cleverly constructed so
that they can form layers of pleasing, repetitive sound within themselves.
Some are as old as five centuries, some are quite new. We went to some pains to find
worthy graphics. Together, the sounds and pictures may help you focus away from what
Francis Bacon called "the Idols of the Age" and toward more healthful sensory
input.
Note: Each page contains a graphic and a midi. Most
of the files are small and will load quickly. In a few cases, you'll need to be patient
and give the page a few seconds to load fully and begin operating. Several of the pages
contain animation.
