The "Texas Statue of Liberty" Event
As a courtesy to the new, alleged president, the Democrats in Congress go along and
allow the Republicans to pass a $100-million bill authorizing the construction of a
250-foot-tall statue to Mama Bush along Interstate 35 just outside of Austin. The statue,
to be executed in Carrera marble, will show Mama, her right arm raised, holding a rolled
sheaf of stock certificates, facing south toward the Rio Grande, as a reminder to the
worlds struggling masses of what America Is Really All About. In spite of the
implied compliment, Wall Street unfortunately sees this bill as a sign of unpredictable
immaturity and reacts badly.
Result: Dow Jones = - 340.
