| The Music Lovers 1) Glenda Jackson as Madame von Meck almost steals the show from Richard
Chamberlain as Tchaikovsky, Mr. Conflicted Composer Himself.
2) Check the very long, very complicated single take as the camera follows Tchaikovsky
into the concert hall for the performance of the piano concerto. One of the most
brilliantly orchestrated camera moves in cinema history, spoiled only when immediately
thereafter, we have to watch Chamberlain's fingers unconvincingly flailing the keyboard.
3) While Ken Russell certainly makes good use of Tchaikovsky as
proto-soundtrack composer, he also knows enough at times to just get out of the way and
let those melodies sing.
