There's a problem with the really famous natural sights. We've seen them so often
in photographs or on TV that the actual experience, when it finally happens, is somehow
diluted, Yosemite being one obvious example.The Grand Canyon, being what it is on the
scale that it is, overhwhelms all previous input.
I went. I saw. I pondered.
Pondering, I found an odd question popped into my mind: "What am I seeing?"
Something in me was trying to clarify, simplify, reduce to its basics, the huge amount of
visual information you get just by sitting on the rim of the canyon and looking.
I sat a while longer and finally got the Grand Canyon down to two words. . . > > >
