The editor talks about the current issue--
and hands out grades...

loglog.gif (6596 bytes)Richard Dadd: The Fairy Feller's Master Stroke. Another of those little graphic oases that we like to do, giving Internet-weary eyes a rest. The only problem was: Even a large file can't reproduce the depth of Dadd's painting. [B-]

Random Pages. A big project that we'd been planning for some time finally got off the ground and made it not only here but onto Magellan's Log 1 as well. An instant hit with readers. [A]

Caravaggio. Diebold Essen's appreciation of the artist resonates well with his appreciation of Peter Robb's new biography. And the map is a marvelous bonus. [A+]

Wrong Notes & Imperfect Pitch. Sylvia Sikeston talked to me a long time about what she was doing in this piece. I still don't get it. [C+]

Offensive Material. Never a fan of bad puns, I resisted this piece, but the staff won me over. [B-]

Toys R Not Us. Cassandra continues her drift into out and out Ludditism. Who are we to gainsay our very own prophet? [B]

Brer Bill & the Briarpatch. Though it seems obvious, nobody else in the media is thinking about Microsoft's hidden contingency plans. I don't grade myself; the staff voted anonymously and gave me a grade here of: [C+]

Pasquinade. Yet another oasis for readers, this one both aural and visual. One of our best, I think. [A-]

Beauty Spot: And another oasis. Are we all perhaps beginning to OD on the flood of Internet wordiness? [A-]

The Age of Hideology. Harsh but accurate stuff from Reppy Toppenish. [B+]

Overall Grade for Magellan's Log 17: [C+]
