Promontories aplenty I see
on which prominent personages
of art, science and politics stand,
admirably posed, lacking only mirrors
to better admire their own
esteemed selves. Sadly, my
tiny bit of wisdom acquired
over years of painstaking thought-
lessness and birthdays glacéed
with surprising dollops of grace
means my weakly x-raying
eyes straining upward
toward their Olympian heights
see with swift clarity what a
clap-trap, fake-front, and
shoddy bit of bad stagecraft
the whole business is, built to
last and convince only till
the curtain falls.
