The conservatives are right: it is arrogance to think we can affect
the global environment in the long term. Their mistake lies in the fact that they fail to
see that their own arrogance is actually hubris. We obviously (warheads, carbon dioxide,
fluorides, etc) can do a lot of damage to the planet. They fail to see that the planet doesn't need us, doesn't need human culture,
constructive or destructive. After we're gone, the earth will most likely be here for some
good long time. Or, if not the earth, the other billion billion planets in the universe.
