Me and My Mayhaws
by Douglas Milburn

My two mayhaws. One thrived. The other died almost and had to be cut back
and back. Now it's playing catch-up with its big cousin.
Theodore Roosevelt wrote to Edwin Arlington Robinson: "It is not
having been in the Dark House, but having left it, that counts."
I sit on the porch and look at my mayhaws, nicely pleased with the one,
cheering on the other which reminds me of me. Every new page in Magellan's Log is
a new leaf on my stunted runt friend.
