He is standing in a forest. There is a full moon at times obscured
by scudding clouds. He is tense from an air of ominous expectancy. He looks around,
frightened. It is an idyllic forest scene. He cannot understand his fear. He looks up. In
the sky is a giant a monster, with human form, feeding. The monster repeatedly reaches
down to the earth and picks up handfuls of something. Lafe looks more closely. It is
people the monster is picking up. Among the people are many children. The monster is eating the children.
Lafe wakes up screaming. "The children the children! Not again, oh God, not again!
Were going to do it again and this time theyre going to get the children, oh
God, oh God!"
She comes running into his room and tries to calm him.
He comes fully awake with difficulty. The fear still
has him. Curtains had parted, as he knew they had parted once before, at Big Bend. He had
seen. He started vomiting and stopped only long after
there was nothing left to vomit.
